Airmen urged to get involved in dorms Published Jan. 25, 2007 MCGUIRE AIR FORCE BASE, N.J. -- Chief Master Sgt. Scott Kilbride, 305th Air Mobility Wing command chief, urges all McGuire Airmen living in the dorms to engage in ongoing efforts to improve the quality of life in the dorms by participating in dorm councils. "This is about Airmen leading Airmen," Chief Kilbride said. Dorm councils working with dorm managers and first sergeants help identify problems and concerns to leadership. "Every dorm resident has the opportunity to voice concerns, or simply identify what is important to them through direct participation with their unit or dorm council," said Chief Kilbride. The chief also expressed that, "our dorm residents have the first line of responsibility to make sure that all areas within our dorms from individual rooms to common areas to the outside area are being kept up to the high standards of cleanliness and more importantly safety." Dorm councils work hand-in-hand with base leadership to help ensure all dorm residents' needs are being met. Moreover, dorm councils provide an avenue for residents to offer and exchange ideas and suggestions on ways to improve the dorms and dorm life. Recently, Chief Kilbride has been working with a team consisting of dorm managers, dorm council members, residents, first sergeants and chiefs. The team has already streamlined the work order request program and is looking at ways to "lean-out" the Bay Orderly process, as well as reinstating a quarterly dorm recognition program. Chief Kilbride's final message to the dorm residents is, "each one of you have a voice - through dorm councils, improvement teams or your first sergeant -- we need your voice to help push issues to the forefront so that we can strive for and maintain the highest quality of life in our dorms."
