Fitness Center to discontinue towel service Published Jan. 19, 2007 By Airman Rebekah Phy McGuire Public Affairs MCGUIRE AIR FORCE BASE, N.J. -- Beginning Feb. 8, the towel service provided at the fitness center here will no longer be available. This AFSO21 LEAN initiative, driven by the Air Force and Air Mobility Command, was approved by Col. Rick Martin, 305th Air Mobility Wing commander, due to funding and manpower constraints. "This is an exciting LEAN initiative that allows us to reallocate dwindling resources for more constructive gains," said Lt. Col. Vann Mathis, 305th Services Squadron commander. "From the wing's point of view, this will free up appropriated funds that can be used to enhance other quality of life programs. From the customer's point of view, there will be an increased staff presence on the floor." We provide our services professionals the finest fitness training available. Instead of washing and folding towels, they will be able to utilize their skills for our customer's benefit," Colonel Mathis said. Others seem to agree. "Customers can expect a more personal level of service from the fitness center staff (because of this initiative,)" said 1st Lt. Frank Christiana, 305th SVS Combat Support Flight commander. Patrons are encouraged to bring their own towels from home, however, if necessary, towels can be purchased from the smoothie bar vendor at the fitness center.
