Air Force Smart Operations for the 21st Century overview training classes are currently offered here and all McGuire personnel are highly encouraged to attend.

Currently, 600 McGuire members have been trained in AFSO 21. The goal is to have 50 percent of the base trained by October 2007.

"This training should spawn rapid improvement events, which will reduce non-value added activities, and save time, effort and money," said Ward Abbett, Mainstream Management consultant and current instructor for the AFSO21 overview course.

The class helps personnel identify ways to reduce non-value added steps in their own workplace to make processes smoother and more efficient.

Classes are held twice a week: Mondays at 1 p.m. in Bldg. 2202 and Thursdays at 9 a.m. in Bldg. 1731.

Classes are set to be offered more frequently once the trainee instructors here complete their certification training.

To become a certified instructor of the AFSO21 overview class and a facilitator at the RIEs, the trainees must complete the AFSO21 overview class as well as a one-week training course and successfully co-facilitate three RIEs.

"Through this process, perspective facilitators will gain the tools and confidence to successfully facilitate a RIE on their own," Mr. Abbett said. "They will soon be teaching the AFSO21 training here."

"Our mission is not complete until McGuire is self-sustaining in AFSO21," Mr. Abbett said. "Each McGuire member helps complete that mission by attending the AFSO21 class."
