'12 Days of Fitness' helps members stay focused Published Nov. 30, 2006 By Staff Sgt. Kelly White McGuire Public Affairs MCGUIRE AIR FORCE BASE, N.J. -- Today Team McGuire members can pick up their 12 Days of Fitness cards at the base fitness center and get a jump start working off the extra calories they'll consume this holiday season. "This time of year, people are wrapped up in the holidays," said Love Vinci, 305th Services Squadron fitness and sports specialist, "and the 12 Days of Fitness program is an incentive to get them to keep working out during the holidays." Another benefit to participating in the program is that participants will learn how to get more results from their workouts. "There are specific activities designated for each of the 12 days. The purpose of this is to introduce people to a variety of cross-training activities, instead of them sticking with what they always do," said Ms. Vinci. "By adding variety, they'll realize they get a better work out. And, we'll be able to introduce them to some of the classes offered at the health and wellness center - which can also help them complete their required activities, she said. When participants come to the fitness center, they'll be given a 12 Days of Fitness ID card. Once they complete their workout each day, they'll need get a fitness center (or HAWC when appropriate) representative to sign off on their card for that day. Participants who complete all 12 days will receive a T-shirt, and their cards will then go into a drawing for a fitness center grand prize, Ms. Vinci said. "People who can't come to the gym all 12 days shouldn't be discouraged from participating," she added. "The point is to keep physically active during this time."
