Miss USA visits Team McGuire Published Sept. 25, 2006 By Airman Rebekah Phy McGuire Public Affairs MCGUIRE AIR FORCE BASE, N.J. -- Miss USA met with Team McGuire members, signed autographs and accompanied a KC-10 refueling flight Sept. 14 here. The Miss USA 2006 titleholder since April 21, Tara Conner, came to McGuire as part of her year-long tour. The United Service Organizations coordinated her visit here as part of its mission to enhance the quality of life of the U.S. Armed Forces personnel and their families. "It's important for Miss USA to connect with the military, so she can see things from the servicemembers' point of view," said D.J. Stanhope, Liberty USO executive director. "We're here to enhance the morale of troops and show them how important they are, and to allow Miss USA the opportunity to see the military's mission and carry that around the world with her," Ms. Stanhope said. The 305th Air Mobility Wing Command Chief Master Sgt. Scott Kilbride said, "It's a great thing for Team McGuire and for Miss USA. We get to demonstrate, almost on a world stage, our mission and get out our message, and she's able to take that all around the world." "This is a great chance for her (Miss USA) to see what the Air Force is all about," said Airman Tonica Brumell, 305th Mission Support Squadron personnelist. During her orientation flight, Miss USA wore a flight suit with a personalized name tag, sat in the flight deck for take-off and landing, and was able to see the plane give and receive fuel. "This is the first time I've been in a plane like this. It's an awesome opportunity, and the people here are amazing," said Ms. Conner. "Thank you so much for having me for a visit and for what you do for our country. It's very admirable. I'm honored to be here."
