514th AMW receives new patch Published May 8, 2006 MCGUIRE AIR FORCE BASE, N.J. -- It's official. The 514th Air Mobility Wing has a new patch. The patch, designed by John Lacomia, former historian for the 514th AMW, will replace the wing's current one, along with the Air Force Reserve Command patch to replace the Air Mobility Wing patch, on all battle dress and desert camouflage uniforms.Mr. Lacomia was one of 18 people who submitted a design idea during the Wing's redesign contest.Judges were looking for simplicity as the overall affect of the proposed patch. Other criteria limited designers to putting a maximum of three elements within the patch shield. Designs were also not to include specific types of aircraft, maps or geographical landmarks, nor numbers or letters in the shield area. Cartoon-type characters were also prohibited.Set against a red, white and blue background, the design elements of the new patch signify the following: The globe stands for the wing's global mission and reach. The four stars signify excellence in the 514th AMW's operations, maintenance, mission support and medical care. The final element, depicted by the two shooting arrows, represents the KC-10 Extender and C-17 Globemaster III, both aircraft assigned to the wing.Wing officials anticipate the patch to be available for members later this month.
