JOINT BASE MCGUIRE-DIX-LAKEHURST, N.J. -- Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division Lakehurst (NAWCAD LKE) held a ribbon cutting ceremony Sept. 22 for the new Supply Chain Risk Management (SCRM) Lab, a key tool in the continuous effort to keep the Navy’s global supply chain safe and operational.
The facility uses cutting-edge microscopes and scanners for 3D modeling and circuitry analysis of computer codes and microelectronics. With these tools, the team can look at a system's hardware and software at such an intense level they can see whether there have been counterfeit or malicious items or codes implanted that could affect the supply chain at the local or global level.
"The opening of the SCRM lab demonstrates our commitment to establish and nurture organic capabilities and our ability to foster innovation," NAWCAD LKE Executive Director Kathleen P. Donnelly said in her opening remarks at the ceremony. "This lab will allow us to manage risks in order to reduce vulnerabilities in the supply chain. As a result, the opening of the SCRM lab will have a profound impact on fleet safety."
Donnelly was joined by NAVAIR Director of Cyber Warfare Greg Sleppy for the cutting of the ribbon.
Supply Chain Risk Management Lead David Hayes and his team provided a briefing on the benefits of the facility followed by a tour.
"We're excited to leverage the lab capabilities to become more proactive on identifying and mitigating supply chain risks across the enterprise," Hayes said. "Utilizing a comprehensive approach to SCRM by assessing our suppliers and componentry while operating a platform to aggregate and further analyze generated data should prove useful in meeting emerging requirements and increasing the overall supply chain security posture of our systems."
