JOINT BASE MCGUIRE-DIX-LAKEHURST, N.J. -- Members of the 87th Security Forces Squadron created a Recharge Room and opened it for personnel use, Nov. 4, during a ribbon cutting ceremony on Joint Base MDL.
The Recharge Room is a designated space designed for mental and physical decompression.
“Security Forces, by nature, is often a high stress career-field,” said Carmelo Hernandez, 87 SFS project manager. “This room was created as a space for those members to relax.”
The room is nature inspired and is decorated with plants, trees, a water feature, and artwork. It also utilizes a sound machine, aroma therapy, massage chairs and other comfortable seating. In addition, there are materials containing information for various Joint Base MDL and off-base helping agencies and services.
“Negative risk factors rise when stress levels become too high,” said Christina Hernandez, 87th Medical Group Family Advocacy Program coordinator. “The ability to de-stress is essential for success. This room is an amazing step in the right direction.”
Throughout the 87 SFS Buildings, there will be bar codes that can be scanned for members to schedule themselves a 30-minute block to use the Recharge Room. The room will be available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, to ensure all personnel have maximum access.
