The Air Mobility Command top officer spent three days meeting with leadership and speaking with the Airman, Soldiers, Sailors, Marines and Coast Guardsmen of the nation's only tri-service joint base, April 26-28.

During his visit, Gen. Carlton D. Everhart II, Air Mobility Command commander, met with leaders from each of the five Air Force wings that call JB MDL home. They spoke with him about the successes and challenges that their respective wings are facing and how they plan to move forward.

This is Everhart's first visit to the joint base since assuming command of AMC in August 2015.

Everhart spoke with Airmen during his visit, highlighting star performers' during an awards presentation and touring Airmen dormitories, as well as an all call that thousands of Airmen from the base attended.

"Getting out and talking to Airmen is one of my greatest joys.  I understand a lot of work goes into preparing for senior leader visits," said Everhart.  "During my visits, I really just want to see what a normal day is like for Airmen.

"It helps me to be able to look you in the eyes and talk to you to see what we can do better to help you be your best for the Air Force.  It also gives me an opportunity to tell you what's on my mind.  Right now, its readiness, growing our Airmen, modernization and the nuclear mission," he added.

As home to the 87th Air Base Wing, 305th Air Mobility Wing, 621st Contingency Response Wing and the U.S. Expeditionary Center, the joint base represents the many diverse missions of AMC, including airlift, aerial refueling and contingency response. Throughout his visit, Everhart was able to see the diverse mission sets the joint base provides on a daily basis.

"The Airmen here exemplify why the United States is a global leader at executing rapid global mobility.  I hope you realize how important your role is to the Air Force," said Everhart. "The wings here have supported every major type of air mobility mission over the past 15 years. That legacy is something to be proud of, and the Airmen assigned here today continue to honor and build on it."
