305th APS wins major awards Published Feb. 3, 2016 By Senior Airman Joshua King Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst Public Affairs JOINT BASE MCGUIRE-DIX-LAKEHURST, N.J. -- The Airmen of the 305th Aerial Port Squadron work tirelessly to ensure all cargo and personnel are where they need to be when they need to be there. They did this so well over the past year that they came away with two prestigious awards; the Air Mobility Command Large Terminal of the Year award and the AMC Verne Orr award. In the 50 year history of the 305th APS, they have never received either award and this year won both. I have worked at many ports throughout my career, it is an honor to be here as we win both awards for the first time in squadron history," said Senior Master Sgt. Jeffrey Norway, 305th APS superintendent. Over the past year, the 305th APS has been at the forefront of shipping people and supplies all over the globe. They supported Ebola efforts in Africa, delivered supplies to the remote Thule AFB Greenland, responded to the unexpected earthquake in Nepal and supported many missions throughout the Middle East. They moved 78 thousand tons of cargo and 190 thousand passengers. "We are very proud to win these awards," said Tech. Sgt. Seth Lobdell, Cargo Operations NCO. "It is always nice to receive recognition for your hard work." The port loads and unloads C-17 Globemaster III and KC-10 Extender Aircraft on a daily basis, with rations, medical supplies and much more. "Our Airmen are dedicated to ensuring the end result," said Capt. John Diaz, 305th APS freight flight commander. "They are constantly doing whatever they can to do better at their jobs, and that's what makes our port great." The AMC Large Terminal of the Year award recognizes the port that best excels in direct mission support, innovative management and quality of life programs. The AMC Verne Orr award recognizes the unit that excels in mission accomplishment and management of resources. "These are team awards, and we have an amazing team here," said Lt. Col. Bary Flack, 305th APS commander. "Our Airmen took the opportunities they had in front of them and really ran with them over the past year and did some great things." The 305th APS is currently competing at the Air Force level for both the Large Terminal of the Year and Verne Orr Awards.
