With the unveiling of the newest Project Medicine Drop box at the 87th Security Forces Squadron here March 27, 2015, the joint base community has a new location to bring unused medications.

This is part of a larger initiative started by the New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs as an important part of its efforts to halt the abuse of prescription drugs; it allows people to dispose of unwanted and expired medications anonymously at any time.

The joint base drop box was unveiled by Col. James Hodges, joint base commander, and John Hoffman, acting New Jersey attorney general.

"We look forward to a continued partnership with the attorney general's Office as we work together in our efforts to halt the abuse and misuse of prescription medications," said Hodges.

This is the 126th drop box and the first on a military installation in New Jersey. The joint base began participating in a similar twice a year program in 2012 and has since collected 421 pounds of medication.

"Everyone who lives and works on the joint base now has a convenient location for the disposal of their unused or unwanted medications," said Hoffman.

The new box is located inside the security forces building across from the law enforcement desk.
