MPs experience agony of OC spray
Staff Sgt. April Chambliss, 174th Infantry Brigade trainer/mentor, sprays a mobilizing military police Soldier with Oleoresin Capsicum, or "OC" spray during mobilization training Sep. 9, 2013, at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, N.J. Other Soldiers from the 480th Military Police Company, Puerto Rico Army National Guard, watch and wait their turns to be sprayed and complete the subsequent tactics course. After being sprayed, the MPs complete five stations where they engage combatants, strike, block strikes, perform take-downs and subdue combatants, all the while feeling the effects of the OC spray themselves. "MPs have to learn to deal with cross-contamination," said Chambliss," so that at any point they know they are still capable of subduing their subject even if hit with the OC themselves." First Army ensures mobilization training is relevant, realistic and reflects the most current conditions Soldiers will face in theater. First Army Division East directly supports the Chief of Staff of the Army's priority of providing trained, equipped and ready forces to win the current fight, while maintaining responsiveness to unforeseen contingencies.
