Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, N.J. -- The 87th Force Support Squadron hosted a base-wide beach party as part of the Summer Concert Series at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, N.J., Aug. 3, 2016.
The event featured live performances from the popular ska-punk band, Reel Big Fish and Full Spectrum, a U.S. Air Force Heritage of America Band. The event also included free food, sponsor stalls, activities for children and the Annual Classic Car, Truck and Motorcycle Cruise-In.
The Summer Concert Series is put together by the 87th FSS to benefit service members stationed here, give them some recreation and bring them a morale boost.
“Troops work 24/7 and they deploy when they are told to deploy,” said Monty Dunn, 87th FSS director of marketing. “You’re in the military. You work really hard. We want to give something back.”
The series of concerts give Soldiers, Marines, Sailors, Airmen and Coast Guardsmen a chance to come together and decompress.
“It was awesome to see people from all the different branches in one place,” said Airman Ernest Adcock, 87th Communications Squadron radio frequency engineer, who attended the event. “It’s easy to forget how large and diverse the mission is here.”
The shows this year have been themed a certain way in order to provide a selection of concerts and events for service members to pick and choose from.
“It doesn’t matter if you’re a Soldier, Sailor, Airman or Marine,” said Dunn. “Music is the universal language and it speaks to everyone.”
The Summer Concert Series is scheduled to come to a close with its End of Summer party on Sept. 22.
