Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, N.J. -- Liberty USO (United Service Organizations) officials facilitated the donation of school supplies to the children of military families at the passenger terminal here on Aug. 24.
Project Einstein is a USO program designed to distribute more than 900 backpacks and a diverse range of school supplies to the children of military families across New Jersey and Pennsylvania. The USO is a nonprofit organization that provides programs, services and live entertainment to United States servicemembers and their families.
“This is a way we can help to fray the cost of back to school expenses,” said MJ Flammer, Liberty USO Southern New Jersey operations manager. “It’s a way to give back to the military community.”
Flammer estimated that almost 300 backpacks were handed out during the lunchtime event.
“It’s terrific,” said Jennifer Lammers, a military spouse who attended the event with her children. “It’s wonderful; it saves us hundreds of dollars. We’re extremely grateful for it.”
The USO continues to make strides to improve the quality of life for servicemembers and their families. The USO’s mission is made possible by the more than 44,000 volunteers who provide an estimated 371,417 hours of service annually.
“We’re not your father’s USO,” said Flammer. “We’re bigger and better. We provide programs, assistance and resources to help the military family thrive.”
