JOINT BASE MCGUIRE-DIX-LAKEHURST, N.J. –
Boeing’s KC-46A Pegasus made its first appearance at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, New Jersey, May 21 to give personnel a first look at the Air Force’s newest aerial refueling aircraft. This visiting jet is assigned to the 22nd Air Refueling Wing at McConnell Air Force Base, Kansas.
“We’re here to show the jet off, to show that it’s real and get people excited about it,” said Col. Mark Baran, vice wing commander, 22nd Air Refueling Wing. “We really want to show how the KC-46 is different than the planes it’s replacing.”
Joint Base MDL pilots, boom operators, maintainers and other personnel toured the Pegasus and talked to the crew members from McConnell about its capabilities. Firefighters also toured the jet and learned about the egress system onboard.
The KC-46 can hold up to 212,999 pounds of fuel and produce 62,000 pounds of thrust per engine. Joint Base MDL is expected to receive the KC-46 in 2021.
