Reservist named best DOD print journalist Published April 27, 2012 JOINT BASE MCGUIRE-DIX-LAKEHURST, N.J. -- Tech. Sgt. Shawn Jones, a reservist in the 514th Air Mobility Wing here is the top print journalist in the Department of Defense. Jones learned April 19 that he was among the 2011 Thomas Jefferson Award winners. The competition is the premiere Department of Defense awards program for print and broadcast journalism with winners representing the elite communicators in DOD. The Defense Information School at Fort Meade, Md., will provide plaques and certificates of achievement for individual and unit awards. Jones will receive his award at the DOD Communicators of Excellence Award Ceremony at the school May 4. In addition to serving in the 514th AMW as a reservist, Jones is the civilian editor of the wing's Freedom Flyer magazine. Four of his five award-winning articles appeared in the magazine, which was named the best printed publication in Air Force Reserve Command. Jones has been a reservist at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst for nearly two years and a civilian full-time employee for almost a year. During his time here he has won many awards even taking home six awards in the Air Force Reserve Command Media Competition earlier this year. His recognition in the AFRC media contest included: - First place in the news feature category. - First place in the personality feature category -Tie for second place for news article. -Third place for human interest feature article. -Second place for sports article. -Second place for photojournalism.
