621 CRW nominated for 2011 Air Force Association Aerospace Awards

SCOTT AIR FORCE BASE, Ill. -- Air Mobility Command officials have announced their nominees Jan. 27 for the 2011 Air Force Association Aerospace Awards.

In an announcement sent on behalf of Gen. Raymond E. Johns, Jr., AMC Commander, three nominees will represent AMC in this year's AFA Aerospace Awards competition.

The 621st Contingency Response Wing, Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, N.J., will vie for the Citation of Honor. The 618th Air and Space Operations Center, Scott AFB, Ill., will represent AMC for the David C. Schilling Award, and 628th Air Base Wing Public Affairs, Joint Base Charleston, S.C., will compete for the Gill Robb Wilson Award.

According to the message, the 621st Contingency Response Wing "distinguished itself by meritorious service as the executing unit of the 21st Expeditionary Mobility Task Force. With only 650 personnel, the wing supported humanitarian relief missions such as the Haiti earthquake and Pakistan flood devastation, the Iraq drawdown, and Afghanistan plus up of operations Enduring Freedom and New Dawn as well as large-scale coalition and joint exercises preparing troops for worldwide operations. Without missing an operational beat, the wing also completed the largest reorganization in its history and achieved an 'excellent" rating on its operational readiness inspection."

For the David C. Schilling Award nominee, the 618th Air and Space Operations Center, the message said the 618th "distinguished itself as the execution agency providing America's global reach as part of 18th Air Force and Air Mobility Command. They planned, tasked and provided command and control for more than 120,000 sorties supporting global airlift, air refueling and aeromedical evacuation operations spanning 176 nations."

The message also said the 618th AOC's efforts were "instrumental in meeting the nation's strategic goals, including the deployment of 30,000 additional troops to Afghanistan, the drawdown of Operation Iraqi Freedom forces, global humanitarian response efforts and sustained support to deployed American and coalition forces around the world."

For the Gill Robb Wilson Award nominee, the 628th ABW Public Affairs office, the message showed the office "highlighted Air Mobility Command's role in the Haiti relief effort following a devastating 7.0-magnitude earthquake."

It also shows the 628th ABW/PA office "wrote and executed a flawless initial and full operational capability plans for the activation of Joint Base Charleston. They provided unparalleled media coverage of the base installation and 53 tenant organizations supporting Operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom."

"On behalf of Air Mobility Command, we send them best wishes for success at the Air Force-level competition," officials said.
