A new steakhouse at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst named Morgan's opened for business at the former Club Dix Sept. 17.

Tying-in with the Dix family history, the new name originated from a combination of the maiden name of Maj. Gen. John Dix's wife, Catherine Morgan, and Morgan Dix, the general's son.

Located at Bldg. 5455, the new facility features a dining room with three new menus, serving something for everyone.

"Opening night was a great success. We had over 75 customers dining in at our new facility," said Stephen Pivin, 87th Force Support Squadron, community service flight chief.

Wednesdays from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Morgan's offerS patrons a steak lunch in addition to meals on the pub menu and a salad bar.

Morgan's pub is also open Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from 4 to 11 p.m., Thursday and Friday from 4 p.m. to midnight and Saturday from 4 to 11 p.m.

"So there is food at the pub Monday through Saturday," said Pivin.

At Morgan's, every Friday is Steak Night from 5 to 9 p.m. and the menu is not limited to just steak. Also available are appetizers, soup and salads, steaks and fish, pasta, sandwiches and burgers as well as choices from the kids' menus.

Set up with white tablecloths, silverware and candles, the atmosphere at Morgan's provides customers the environment of an upscale restaurant.

"I'm a connoisseur on salmon and I give them an A-plus on their salmon," said Gary, an Air Force retiree who only gave his first name. "The service overall was excellent and I would recommend that more people come and support the facility and support what they are trying to do for the military."

The first customers to arrive on opening night at Morgan's were John Crawford and Elsie Hittelman of Bordentown Township. The couple had previously attended Morgan's food sampling two days prior and had returned for the grand opening.

"The restaurant's overall presentation with table settings was excellent. When we arrived every table had a candle lit and I think that was something really nice and well-appreciated," said Crawford. "I think it is a great beginning and I recommend people come out here and enjoy all the entrees because I think they are all going to be excellent."

Opening night proved to be a success, as positive comments on the steakhouse's ambiance and numerous compliments on the food quality were made by several customers.

"I feel that the new Morgan's Steakhouse is going to be a great addition to our joint base community," added Pivin.
