Former Army and Navy civilian employees who transferred to the Air Force Oct. 1, 2009 to stand-up Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst will officially transfer to the Air Force Pay System database April 11.

Until now, the civilian employees were paid under the Army and Navy Defense Finance and Accounting Systems. Defense Civilian Pay System Pensacola and DFAS worked together to develop a process to transition the employees to DFAS - Indianapolis, who handles the Air Force pay system.

Finance officials anticipate all transferred employees will be on the same pay schedule and system by April 30.

"This process is designed to be as seamless and transparent as possible," said 2nd Lt. Corey Holden, 87th CPTS financial services flight commander. "We are working hard to ensure every civilian transferred is in the system by April 23."

The finance team will manually cross-check each civilian's account during the week of April 19 to identify errors and correct any problems, said Lieutenant Holden.

The finance office is building hard-copy pay records for each civilian employee to expedite any pay corrections and eliminate any unforeseen errors during the database transfer.

"We highly encourage all transferring civilians to print a copy of their Leave and Earning Statement, Electronic Funds Transfer forms; and their state and federal W-4s to the civilian pay office for accuracy of entitlements," said Lieutenant Holden. "All personal information is treated as sensitive and will be protected by the Privacy Act."

This transition will be transparent to the impacted civilians. The only visible difference will be the payroll office identification on one's LES.

Throughout April, former Army employees will be paid April 8, 22 and 30; former Navy employees will be paid April 2, 16 and 30.

By May, everyone will be on the same pay schedule - every other Friday. For example, all civilian employees will be paid April 30; the next pay date for civilians will be May 14.

Additionally, all employees will receive a single W-2 for the entire year. This will account for all earnings in 2010, regardless of the service-specific pay system individuals were under.

The 87th CPTS has setup a hotline, 754-FUND (3863), for individuals with questions on the upcoming transition.

The joint base will also host three town hall meetings 11 a.m. to noon April 12 at the JB MDL Base Theater; 2 to 3 p.m. April 12 at the Timmermann Center; and 2 to 3 p.m. April 15 at the Lakehurst Flight Deck to address any concerns on the transition.

The civilian pay office is located in the main lobby of Building 2906.
