Interactive MatchUp game will award prizes up to $10,000 Published May 27, 2009 By Erin Blauvelt 87th Air Base Wing Public Affairs JOINT BASE McGUIRE-DIX-LAKEHURST -- Called addictive and fun by participants, the interactive MatchUp game, which will award winners up to $10,000, returns to McGuire for its 10th summer. Sponsored by the Air Mobility Command and run by the 87th Forces Support Squadron here, MatchUp begins June 1 and ends Aug. 31, officials said. Played with "scratch-off" style cards, the web-based game is open to military members and their families at all 12 AMC bases. On the command level, high scores are rewarded with extra entries into the running for a $10,000, $7,500 and $5,000 cash prize. Each base is guaranteed one $1,000 and one $500 cash winner. Further, every week, each base's high scorer will win a $100 cash prize. Other instant-win prizes include travel mugs, T-shirts and online coupons redeemable at six Services locations. Last year, a McGuire Airman won the third place prize of $5,000 cash; in 2007, another McGuire Airman won the grand prize, which was a new car. This is a game that gives people the chance to win money, which is necessary in this economy," said Monty Dunn, director of Marketing for the 87th FSS. "And aside from just winning money and stuff, it's fun. This is a great, easy way to increase summer fun." Created to increase awareness of and participation in Services programs, MatchUp pits participants against themselves and other players. The memory game requires competitors to make as many matches as quickly as possible. Anyone with access to Services facilities is eligible to register and play, including family members and members of other branches of the military. Players may pick up game pieces at participating Services locations, and register online at www.amcmatchup.com. Each game piece submitted online is entered into the drawing for a grand prize and for thousands of other prizes. To get the most out of the program, MatchUp requires teamwork to earn cash awards for the base, officials said. Each day, the AMC base with the highest percentage toward their goal--set by AMC--receives $200. This total accrues each day the base is in the lead. A monthly $1,000 cash prize will be given to the base with the highest one-day registration increase. The 87th FSS also has the opportunity to win up to $5,000 based on how McGuire places in the command-wide competition. To help McGuire in the base race, two game-pieces per participant are required. To increase participation in the MatchUp competition, on July 2 the 87th FSS will host a free, MatchUp picnic here at McGuire. Detailed rules will be posted online when the game site goes live on June 1. For more information, call Mr. Dunn at (609) 754-5327.
