AMC sponsors naming contest as part of headquarters renovations

By Claudia Duncan Air Mobility Command Public Affairs

In a tribute to Airmen, Air Mobility Command officials are completing several renovation projects here that will highlight the important role Air Mobility Airmen play in operations throughout the world.

In addition to aesthetic changes, officials are asking for Airmen's help in naming several rooms within the command's premier conference center, the Global Reach Planning Center.

AMC official are sponsoring a command-wide contest in which Air Mobility Airmen are encouraged to suggest names for eight unnamed rooms located within the GRPC. Officials said there are no limitations on what can be suggested (i.e., people, events, aircraft, places, and so forth).

The naming contest begins Jan. 26 and ends Feb. 13. At that time, the names will be submitted for review. The final entrees will be selected by a panel of judges and approved by Gen. Arthur Lichte, AMC commander. Entrees should be emailed to AMC-DS@scott.af.mil by the Feb. 13 deadline.

"The contest will provide AMC Airmen an opportunity to be involved in naming the rooms in our command's premier conference center," said Gail Wojtowicz, AMC deputy director of staff.

In addition to the room naming contest, the GRPC and AMC headquarters buildings will undergo several renovations.

At the GRPC, Ms. Wojtowicz said barren walls will be upgraded with graphic panels, wing crests and unit displays. In addition to these improvements, a commander's conference room will be created with portraits of all prior air transport and tanker MAJCOM commanders. The pictures were previously displayed in the AMC headquarters building.

"The commander's conference room is the perfect way to pay respect to AMC's heritage and the earlier commanders who shaped our command," added Ms. Wojtowicz.
She said a GRPC ribbon cutting and naming ceremony will be held in late spring. At that time, officials said attendees will see a more modern facility that more accurately reflects today's modern force.

In addition to the GRPC transformation, the AMC headquarters building will receive some necessary upgrades. Renovations to the headquarters building will include some room and hallway modification projects, including a new cable photo hanging system in the hallways and conference rooms. In another tribute to past and present Air Mobility Airmen, AMC officials plan to display pictures depicting mobility history and current operations.
