All those aspiring singers out there -- get ready to shine!

The Air Mobility Command Icon competition, loosely based around the TV show "American Idol", will be held Aug. 14, 5 p.m., at The Club here.

"AMC Icon is an AMC commander initiative designed to showcase the vocal talents of the AMC communities," said Kerri Schoonmaker, 305th Services Squadron special events director. "This summer, each of the 11 AMC installations will conduct a base-level, solo, karaoke-style contest where contestants will face the judges and possibly win cash prizes."

The AMC Icon competition is open to all active-duty military personnel, their authorized family members and civilian employees 18 years of age and older. Family members and civilian personnel may compete at the base-level contest for cash prizes, but will not be authorized to advance to the AMC finals. McGuire's AMC Icon contest will be hosted by Big Phil from the 305th SVS family.

"We invite all of Team McGuire, Fort Dix and Lakehurst to join us for a family-friendly event with live entertainment by some of our local heroes!" Ms. Schoonmaker said. "If the music doesn't make you move, then hang out at the bouncy house and enjoy a snow cone on us."

The winners from each base will be awarded cash prizes. The first place winner will receive $500; second place $300; and third place $200. The top-finishing AMC active-duty member will represent the installation, fly out to Scott AFB, Ill., and compete in the command finals Oct. 23, Ms. Schoonmaker said. The winner of the AMC Icon overall competition will receive a nonbinding audition/interview opportunity with the U.S. Air Force Tops in Blue.

"The competition will offer a great opportunity for people to show off their skills," said Monty Dunn, 305th SVS marketing director. "A lot of people have tremendous talent, and it's very rare we get to showcase it not only to McGuire, but to the Air Force. This is a great chance for those talented singers out there to show us what they got!"

Registration for the AMC Icon competition is free, but required. Contestants must fill out a letter of intent and drop it off at The Club to participate.
