The joint base held a two-day Veterans Career Summit for service members preparing to transition back to civilian life, here April 7-8.

Approximately 200 employers came to the event to speak to and potentially hire one or more of the over 500 transitioning veterans that attended.

New Jersey Lt. Governor, Kim Guadagno, Maj. Gen. Frederick H. Martin, U.S. Air Force Expeditionary Center commander, Col. Frederick D. Thaden, Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst commander and other joint base leaders attended the event.

"There is no better cause than to make sure the Soldiers and Airmen that fought for their country have good-quality, high-paying jobs when they leave the service," said Guadagno. "I truly believe that those of you who have fought for your country should never have to fight for services or a good-quality job."

Service members in attendance were able to ask a panel of retired and transitioned veterans their advice and experiences of going through the transitioning period, the do's and don'ts of resumes and finding a job once they left the military.

Government agencies and civilian corporations alike came together for the event, working with veterans to determine what positions best suited their education level and military experience.

"At the joint base alone, we have upwards of 1,500 service members who will retire or separate in the next 18 months," said Martin. "Service members bring incredible leadership, teamwork, discipline and problem solving experience, they are well trained and battle tested to take on the problems in business today and in the future."

The Military and Family Support Center also offers workshops and seminars to assist veterans during their transition. For more information about these courses call the MFSC at (609) 754-3154.
