Beginning Nov. 18, each 87th Air Base Wing service member is required to wear the blues uniform or service equivalent every Wednesday.

The utility uniform or flight suit will stay the uniform of the day for the remainder of the week.

"Military image, tradition and heritage are tied closely with our service uniform," said Col. Frederick D. Thaden, 87th ABW and JB MDL commander. "This new policy allows us to celebrate that heritage and ensure our people reflect the professionalism of their service."

The new policy will be in effect year round. Military members should refer to their service's dress and appearance regulation for proper wear of the service uniform, particularly in cold weather.

Service members whose duties require the use of their utility uniform or flight suit will be exempt from this policy at the discretion of their unit commander. Per Thaden's guidance, the intent is so allow unit commanders flexibility to "ensure the safety and productivity of their members."

"I'm happy to see us going back to a tradition that was in place for years," said Chief Master Sgt. Craig Poling, 87th ABW command chief. "It reminds us that we are a part of something bigger than ourselves. It works to reaffirm our pride in our service and heritage."
