'Global Lightning' to mirror modern battlefields Published June 4, 2015 By Staff Sgt. Nicole Dykstra 78th Training Division JOINT BASE MCGUIRE-DIX-LAKEHURST, N.J. -- The joint base here is one of several installations hosting "Global Lightning," a joint and coalition training exercise, from June 6 through 26. Approximately 12,000 service members from the U.S. Army Reserve, Air Force and Navy, along with British and Canadian forces are scheduled to conduct one of the largest combat service and service support training exercises in the U.S. Army Reserve's history. The joint base, along with six other installations throughout the U.S., will host the exercise, during which the 78th Training Division, 75th Training Division, First Army and 3rd Medical Training Brigade will train and evaluate participating units progressing through the Army Force Generation cycle. The joint, combined and multicomponent training exercise will serve as comprehensive training that will ensure the operational readiness of the Reserve units participating. "Global Lightning" also contains two integrated exercises. "Quartermaster Liquids Logistics Exercise," an annual logistical movement event, transports necessary petroleum and purified water throughout the United States. "Global Medic" assesses the medical efficiency and interoperability of multiple U.S. services and their foreign counterparts. "We've organized an opportunity of this scale to mirror the realities of real-world operational environments," said Brig. Gen. Bruce Hackett, 78th Training Division commander. "We're looking forward to enhancing our readiness by sharing knowledge with our sister services and international partners."
