The 174th Infantry Brigade, First Army Division East, held its 2013 Best Officer Competition Aug. 26-28, 2013, at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, N.J.

The Best Officer Competition tests Soldiers' military knowledge, skills and physical fitness.

The three-day competition comprised events including land navigation, weapons qualification, Army physical fitness test, Army warrior tasks and battle drills, 12.7 mile road march and a written exam. Soldiers participating in the competition competed against each other for accuracy and speed as many of the events were timed.

At the conclusion of the final race, other brigade soldiers met the officers at the finish line, as well as family and friends. They moved into the brigade headquarters for winner announcements and the traditional Super Supper with their colleagues and family members.

This year's Best Officer individual winner was Capt. Adam Storms, 174th Infantry Brigade Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment. This year's Best Officer Team winner was Team 21: Capt. Robert Gunning and 2nd Lt. Stephen Amanzio, 3-312th Regiment.
