Healthier Halvorsen Hall: More nutritional items now offered Published Oct. 22, 2008 By Airman 1st Class Anthony Frazier 305th Services Squadron food service team member McGUIRE AIR FORCE BASE, N.J. -- Since the grand re-opening of the Halvorsen Hall Dining Facility in September 2006, our staff has made several improvements to our food operation. We have enhanced the way we prepare food to accommodate a healthier lifestyle, as well as added more nutritional menu items. We have also developed nutritional information sheets for every meal to tell you exactly how much fat, cholesterol, sodium and calories are in the meal you choose to eat. The menu at Halvorsen Hall offers a variety of healthy menu options to include veggie burgers, whole grain and other healthy cereals, low-fat yogurts, Nutra-Grain bars, lite tuna fish and fat free dressings, to include our newest raspberry vinaigrette. We also provide 1 percent milk, skim milk and a variety of fruits, including kiwi and strawberries. In addition, we offer an array of soups, like cream of broccoli, Hungarian mushroom and Italian wedding. Our top-of-the-line salad bar is so delicious, you are sure to come back for seconds! At the salad bar, you will find an amazing variety of fresh produce and fruits, so you can make your own homemade salad. To further our pursuit of promoting healthy options, we have collaborated with the McGuire's Health and Wellness Center. Dana Maurer, the HAWC's registered dietician, has provided pamphlets and table tents to help display appropriate portion sizes. She also provides healthy-eating classes for Team McGuire members seeking more nutrition information. As your food service team, our primary focus is to make sure our customers are happy while providing food items that not only look good, but are also good for you. We are always looking for ways to improve our service to Team McGuire. In the near future, look for us to have an even wider selection of chips and cereal to offer. The meetings are held on the first Wednesday of every quarter at Halvorsen Hall at 2 p.m. In addition, you can simply stop by anytime and leave us a comment card.
