Service member spotlight: role model

By Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst Public Affairs Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst Public Affairs

Marine Sgt. Joshua Shearer, Marine Aircraft Group 49 ground supply NCO from Crystal Lake, Il.

Q: Why did you join the military?
A: I joined the Marine Corps to be part of the world's finest fighting force.

Q: What is your job and what is its impact on the mission?
A: I work in the ground supply shop managing asset allowances for my unit. Everything purchased through the Marines from uniforms to weapons is managed through our records. Ensuring we have everything we need to complete the mission is my everyday mission.

Q: Do you have any past or current family members in the military?
A:My grandfather served as a corporal in the Army during the Korean War.

Q: Who most inspires you?
A: Brand new Marines. Their motivation and eagerness for self-improvement is so strong that it makes me want to match their aggressiveness. My wife is also an inspiration.

Q: What is one thing you'd like your fellow service members to take away or understand about the military?
A: Be a role model. I just want everyone to remember how the public is constantly looking at us as members of the military. Little kids look to us in our uniforms and dream about becoming and being just like us.
