REMEMBERING LIEUTENANT JONES
The name of former Air Force 1st Lt. George E. Jones of Aberdeen, Miss., is seen on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C., May 28, 2007. Lieutenant Jones was honored by his family on Memorial Day on the 10th anniversary of his burial at Arlington National Cemetery. Lieutenant Jones was a B-52 crew member and died July 7, 1967, when his aircraft collided with another B-52 over the South China Sea. He was reported as missing in action until his remains were found and interred at Arlington in the 1990s. On Memorial Day 2007, Air Force Staff Sgt. Gary Ritter of the U.S. Air Force Expeditionary Center at Fort Dix, N.J., returned a POW/MIA bracelet bearing Lieutenant Jones' name to the family of Lieutenant Jones that he'd held on to for 19 years.
