JOINT BASE MCGUIRE-DIX-LAKEHURST, N.J. - Senior Airman William Jones, 87th Medical Group medical laboratory technician, conducts a polymerase chain reaction test on a sample to determine if it will come back positive or negative with COVID-19, April 20, 2020, on Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, N.J. During the test, DNA is amplified in order to detect genetic traces of COVID-19 that will determine if the patient will need additional treatment to fight the virus. The 87 MDG laboratory is the first outpatient clinic laboratory in the Department of Defense and Air Mobility Command to perform COVID-19 testing. From April 19-25, the 87 MDG is celebrating Medical Laboratory Professionals Week to recognize the critical work each member provides patients on a daily basis.
