Women's Equity Day celebrated with "Boots n' Brunch"

Personnel assigned to Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst attend a Boots n' Brunch event in observance of Women's Equality Day at McGuire Air Force Base, N.J., on Aug. 26, 2024. At the behest of Rep. Bella Abzug, D-N.Y., the U.S. Congress designated Aug. 26 as Women’s Equality Day in 1971, with the resolution passing in 1973. The date was chosen to commemorate the 1920 certification of the 19th Amendment to the Constitution, granting women the right to vote. This marked the culmination of a massive, peaceful civil rights movement by women that began in 1848 at the world’s first women’s rights convention in Seneca Falls, N.Y.
