Joint base continues to fight range fire Published April 9, 2012 By 030412 JOINT BASE MCGUIRE-DIX-LAKEHURST, N.J. -- Members of Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst's Fire and Emergency Services are continuing their efforts to fight the joint base's range fires. The fire is approximately 80 percent contained with expectations for the fire to be fully contained by this evening. Emergency responders who began their fire-fighting efforts at 9:30 a.m. today are still on scene. However, all mutual aid assets from the surrounding communities have been released. Since the fire started, it is estimated that more than 300 acres of wooded area have burned. No injuries or structural damages have been reported. The fire started in training ranges 13 and 14 and began moving easterly into areas where previous controlled burns had been conducted. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation. Joint base officials are still requesting all personnel avoid the range area while emergency responders are on the ground trying to finish containing the fire.
