Joint base responds to range fire Published April 9, 2012 By 020412 JOINT BASE MCGUIRE-DIX-LAKEHURST, N.J. -- Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst responded to a fire on the joint base ranges at approximately 9:30 a.m. today. Since the fire started, approximately 300 acres of wooded area have burned. The fire is located on the training ranges and is currently moving easterly into areas where previous controlled burns have been conducted. JB MDL Fire and Emergency Services, along with multiple mutual aid assets, are on scene and working to contain the fire. No injuries or structural damages have been reported. Due to the high winds and dry conditions, all personnel are requested to avoid the range area while emergency responders are on ground. Throughout the next several days, the community may see heavy smoke. Joint base medical officials are encouraging individuals to stay indoors, keep windows closed, and avoid aerobic exercise in smokey areas. However, if an individual experiences any type of respiratory problems please take extra precautions and consult your medical provider.
