305th Air Mobility Wing to Change Command Published Aug. 30, 2010 By 100827 JOINT BASE MCGUIRE-DIX-LAKEHURST, N.J. -- Col. Paul R. Murphy will assume command of the 305th Air Mobility Wing during a ceremony Sept. 2, at 10 a.m., here. Media are invited to witness one of the military's most important traditions as the joint base community bids farewell to one leader and welcomes another. During the ceremony, Col. Scott F. Smith, 305th AMW commander, will relinquish command to, Colonel Murphy, who currently serves as the Chief of Programs Division for Air Mobility Command, at Scott Air Force Base, Ill. In his current position, Colonel Murphy is responsible for the planning and programming of AMC's force structure to include 55,000 personnel, 1,295 mobility aircraft, and 12 active-duty main operating bases which provide forces worldwide. He is a command pilot with more than 3,300 flying hours in KC-135 Stratotanker, T-37 Tweet, KC-10 Extender, and E-4B. Colonel Smith has commanded the 305th AMW since March 2009. He will move on to command the Commander's Action Group for United States Southern Command in Miami, Fl. Following the ceremony, Colonel Murphy will be available for introductions and to answer questions. The 305th Air Mobility Wing extends America's global reach by generating, mobilizing and deploying 32 KC-10 and 16 C-17 Globemaster III aircraft to conduct strategic airlift and air refueling missions worldwide.
