Observance to honor fallen heroes Published May 29, 2008 By 080530 MCGUIRE AIR FORCE BASE, N.J. -- Team McGuire, the Thomas B. McGuire Jr. Foundation and the New Jersey State Police will celebrate our shared sacrifices with a wreath laying ceremony at 10:00 a.m. on May 31 here. Participants in the 2008 McGuire Wreath-Laying Ceremony will lay wreaths in front of historic B-17 Flying Fortress and C-47 Skytrain static aircraft displays on McGuire's flightline, honoring the brave men and women who sacrificed their lives in the defense of the nation's freedom. Music will be performed by the New Jersey State Police Pipes and Drums of the Blue and Gold. Additionally, Memorial Day tributes will be read by two students from the North Hanover Townships School District. McGuire's Honor Guard will also provide a 21-gun salute. The ceremony will culminate with flyovers by Team McGuire's KC-135 Stratotanker, KC-10 Extender aircraft. The keynote speaker for the ceremony is General Arthur Lichte, commander, Air Mobility Command. This ceremony is the first event beginning the two-day McGuire Air Expo featuring performances by the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds, the USAF F-15E Strike Eagle, the USAF F-16 Viper East, and the U.S. Navy F/A-18 Hornet demonstration teams. A large number of current and former military aircraft will also be on display.
