McGuire C-17 squadron to return from deployment Published Jan. 16, 2008 By 071227 MCGUIRE AIR FORCE BASE, N.J -- The 305th Air Mobility Wing invites media to attend the homecoming of the Air Force's first single-squadron C-17 deployment from McGuire AFB, Jan. 4, when the 6th Airlift Squadron returns from its deployment to the US Central Command area of operations, where it conducted missions supporting the Global War on Terrorism. "This deployment was very successful, both for the 6th Airlift Squadron and Team McGuire," said Lt. Col. Joseph Wolfer, 6th AS commander. "We have flown 600 percent more in the last four months than our squadron flew in all of 2006. We played an important role in delivering troops and equipment to both Iraq and Afghanistan," he said. "The squadron has performed brilliantly and I am immensely proud of everyone in the unit. We are all looking forward to seeing our loved ones back in the states after being separated for four months and spending the holidays away from home," Colonel Wolfer added. The 6th AS was deployed with other Team McGuire members from the 305th Operations Group, 305th Mission Support Group and the Air Mobility Command Test and Evaluation Squadron. Combined, they made up the 816th Expeditionary Airlift Squadron. "This squadron delivered the troops that made the success in Iraq possible and then took the fight to the enemy in Afghanistan. Individually, these pilots and loadmasters have become the most tactically proficient C-17 crew force in the world. The squadron lived up to the proud heritage as the Air Force's oldest airlift squadron," said Colonel Wolfer. Media representatives interested in attending the homecoming should RSVP with the 305th AMW Public Affairs Office at (609) 754-2104 no later than 3 p.m. Jan. 4 and should plan on arriving at the McGuire main gate (Defense Access Road) at 7:15 p.m. Jan. 4. - 30 - Note: For more information, contact the 305th AMW Pubic Affairs Office.
