MCGUIRE AIR FORCE BASE, N.J. -- Col. Balan R. Ayyar takes the reins of the 305th Air Mobility Wing during a change of command ceremony here at 10:30 a.m. Oct. 2.
Colonel Ayyar replaces Col. Frederick H. Martin, who moves on to become the deputy director, Operations and Logistics, United States Africa Command, Stuttgart, Germany.
The colonel comes to McGuire from the 319th Air Refueling Wing, Grand Forks Air Force Base, N.D., where he was the vice commander. He is a command pilot with more than 3,500 hours in the T-37, T-38, C-141B, Kiran Mk IA and KC-135.
The 305 AMW extends America's global reach by generating, mobilizing and deploying the C-17 Globemaster III and KC-10 Extender aircraft to conduct strategic airlift and air refueling missions.
