McGuire deploys C-17 squadron Published Aug. 27, 2007 By 082707 MCGUIRE AIR FORCE BASE, N.J. - -- McGuire Air Force base invites media to attend the Air Force's first single-squadron C-17 deployment from McGuire Aug. 29, when its 6th Airlift Squadron deploys in support of the Global War on Terrorism. "This deployment is unique as C-17 squadrons traditionally deploy from Charleston AFB, S.C., or McChord AFB, Wash, which both have four C-17 active-duty squadrons compared to McGuire's one," said Maj. Eric Moritz, 6 AS director of operations. The squadron will deploy with other Team McGuire members from the 305th Operations Group, 305th Mission Support Group and the Air Mobility Command Test and Evaluation Squadron. Combined, they will make up the 816 EAS. Combined, these organizations will be re-designated as the 816th Expeditionary Airlift Squadron. Since this will be the first extended deployment for several 6 AS members, McGuire Airman and Family Readiness Center community readiness consultant, Erica Zeiger, will also be available to talk about how the Air Force helps family members prepare for and cope with deployments. Media representatives interested in attending must RSVP with the 305th AMW Public Affairs Office at (609) 754-2104 no later than 4 p.m. Aug. 28 and must arrive at the McGuire main gate by 7 a.m. Aug. 29
