Military Working Dogs and Marines and Helicopters, Oh My!

U.S. Air Force Airmen assigned to the 87th Security Forces Squadron and U.S. Marine Corps. Marines assigned to Marine Aircraft Group 49, pose for a photo at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, N.J. on Oct. 16, 2022. Defenders with 87th SFS K-9 section took part in a joint training with Marines to familiarize the Military Working Dogs with the transportation by helicopter. This skillset was developed for the qualification purposes of bomb detection in deployed environments, where certain terrain may only be accessible by air transportation.

The mission of MAG 49 is to organize, train, and equip combat ready squadrons to augment and reinforce the active Marine forces in time of war, national emergency, or contingency operations, and to provide personnel and assault support capabilities to relieve operational tempo for active duty forces.
