JB MDL 'Women of Honor' highlights Army Staff Sgt. Ana Ferreira

By Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst Public Affairs

In honor of Women's History month, JB MDL will highlight female servicemembers from the U.S. Army, U.S. Marine Corps, U.S. Navy, U.S. Air Force, and U.S. Coast Guard throughout March.

This week, Army Staff Sgt. Ana Ferreira, 72nd Field Artillery Brigade, at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst will be highlighted in the joint base's 'Women of Honor' series.

Why did you join the U.S. Army Reserve?
I have always loved the military, when I was a little girl I remember telling my mom I was going to join. I wanted to be like my dad.

Explain your most memorable experience in the Army.
Basic training, day 1... who could forget that!

Explain your biggest achievement in the military.
I won the Non Commissioned Officer of the Quarter board. It was a great feeling to win and know that all my hard work paid off. However, the feeling didn't compare to the pride I felt when I participated in the "Gold Star Mom's Ruck March" where a 10k was done in honor of the mothers who had lost a son or daughter in battle.

Do you feel like you are making an impact on the community? How?
I would like to think so, I believe anyone who serves their country and does so to the best of their abilities, makes an impact on society and their community.

If you had to give a young girl advice on being successful, what would you say?
My advice would be to finish school because no matter what she might do in the future, she will always have a career to fall back on.
