NAWCAD Lakehurst, Villanova renew educational partnership

By Alicia Mitchko Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division Lakehurst

Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division (NAWCAD) Lakehurst and the Villanova University College of Engineering recently renewed their Educational Partnership Agreement (EPA) to continue streamlining qualified graduates into the Navy workforce.

The partnership provides opportunities for aspiring engineers to help find solutions to engineering issues currently affecting the Navy through NAWCAD Lakehurst’s Capstone Project Program Initiative.

“The Villanova graduates who have participated in the capstone initiative are some of the best and brightest engineering minds entering the field,” said Kathleen Donnelly, NAWCAD Lakehurst executive director and Villanova alumna. “Those who continue to work with us after graduation have become valuable additions to the Fleet.”

Participation in the capstone program establishes communication between NAWCAD Lakehurst engineers and students enrolled in Villanova’s engineering programs.

NAWCAD Lakehurst provides mentorship and experience working on current engineering projects.

The capstone project not only provides Villanova’s engineering students with problem-solving opportunities, but also allows NAWCAD Lakehurst’s recruitment team to begin an open line of communication with potential new employees, said Haidy Oliveira, NAWCAD Lakehurst education outreach coordinator.

“A significant amount of our recruitment efforts focus on Villanova graduates who participate in the capstone program,” Oliveira said. “The EPA lets us streamline these students into careers here at Lakehurst.”
